World land speed record breaker to open IMHX 2013
|
6 February 2013
The International Materials Handling Exhibition (IMHX) - which takes place from 19-22 March at the NEC in Birmingham - will be opened by Richard Noble OBE. IMHX 2013 will showcase a wealth of new products and services in the storage, handling and distribution sector. Registration for a free priority pass to attend the show is now open.
Richard Noble, who held the world land speed record between 1983 and 1997 with the car Thrust2, will cut the ribbon to open IMHX 2013 in front of his latest record-attempting vehicle, BLOODHOUND SSC (SuperSonic Car), in the Skills & Apprenticeships Zone in Hall 17. This area forms part of the Linde presence at IMHX. Linde Material Handling (UK) is supporting the BLOODHOUND Project, and is showcasing its Apprentice Scheme and forklift truck hire proposition alongside the BLOODHOUND show car.
Richard Noble is Project Director for the latest land speed record attempt, with Royal Air Force Fighter Pilot, Andy Green, at the wheel. The jet- and rocket-powered BLOODHOUND SSC is attempting not only to beat the existing record of 763mph set by Green in 1997 - when he smashed Noble's 1983 record of 633mph by exceeding the speed of sound at ground level for the first time - but to pass the 1000mph mark. Richard Noble will be updating IMHX visitors with the latest project news - including plans to make BLOODHOUND's first high-speed runs in the Hakskeen Pan, South Africa, towards the end of this year - in a special presentation in the Logistics Excellence theatre in Hall 17 on Tuesday 19 March.
Commented Rob Fisher, Director of Informa Exhibitions' Materials Handling Group, which organises the show, "Attracting a world-renowned engineer of the calibre of Richard Noble is a real feather in the cap of IMHX. He represents what can be achieved at the top end of the industry, which is crying out for role models to attract fresh blood into engineering. His presence at IMHX is a massive boost, and we will be delighted to host him at the event and show him the expertise that runs through the intralogistics industry."
The 14m-long, 2-tonne BLOODHOUND show car will be delivered and displayed at IMHX with the support of BLOODHOUND Project sponsor, Linde Material Handling (UK), which, via its forklift truck hire team, has been supporting BLOODHOUND with loading and unloading the show car, and has also assisted with the latest rocket firing. Linde has the largest forklift truck rental fleet in the UK, ensuring it can supply the appropriate truck for moving any load, including supersonic cars.
Sponsored by BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions, IMHX 2013 will feature over 400 exhibitors, many of which will use the show as the launch pad for new products and services. Visitors will enjoy an informative and exciting experience, with the exhibition having a number of feature areas as well as free conference sessions, product launches, live demonstrations and prize competitions. IMHX 2013 - which spans four sold-out halls of the NEC - is the UK's largest and most well-attended logistics event.
