An Asia focussed conference session led by Mr. R. Gopal of research and consulting company Frost and Sullivan will look at 'Box Trade and Economic Outlook' at Intermodal Europe 2012 in Amsterdam in November.
Mr. Gopal, Global VP, Transportation and Logistics Practice, for Frost and Sullivan, will be talking about Asia's freight movement and the opportunities that are currently facing shippers in the 12 key economies within the Asia-Pacific Region.
“Asia has seen rapid growth, which has led to a need for investment” explains Mr. Gopal. “There are many opportunities at the moment but organisations need to have a better understanding of different markets.”
A significant volume of freight is handled in the Asia region and the most common mode of freight transportation is sea freight, with 13 of the top 20 container ports located in Asia. Although there is a considerable level of rail freight in parts of Asia (particularly in India), the Asian region is still behind in terms of intermodal capability, according to Mr. Gopal.
“Many businesses in the Asia Pacific region are talking about intermodal but not implementing it yet” he says. “Intermodal Europe 2012 provides a great opportunity to show these companies how to incorporate intermodal practices into their operations.”
The conference session, titled Asia Focus: Box Trade and Economic Outlook, will be held on Day One of the event, on 27 November.
“Intermodal Europe 2012 comes at a time when the European region is facing a lot of challenges, so the conference will be a good platform to understand core issues and challenges and explore opportunities for collaborative projects across regions” says Mr. Gopal. “The conference programme is varied which helps to exchange ideas and gain a broader understanding of the intermodal sector.”
Intermodal Europe 2012 is offering over 50 conference sessions during the three day event at the RAI in Amsterdam from 27-29 November.
